Grover Lacoa, Vice Minister for Domestic Trade, said today that an estimated 2,936 businesses will benefit from Supreme Decree 4573, which changes customs tax rates on products made on the national territory that can meet popular demand.
In an interview with the program A Media Mañana de Los Tiempos and Grupo Centro, Lacoa stated that there are several products imported from countries in Europe and North America that are also manufactured on national territory. Decree aimed at increasing national production aims.
“The top decree was announced last Wednesday, comes into force tomorrow and is valid until December 2022. According to our most conservative estimate, it protects 2,936 companies. We must remember that micro and small businesses will also benefit, but for the 2,936 companies it will have a more immediate impact, ”said Lacoa.
The deputy minister said it was a “national government proposal based on import substitution policy”.
The products for which the tariff will be increased include chocolate, milk, sugar, leather, among others.
According to Lacoa, at least $ 118 million in imports can be “replaced” by national production annually.
