The United Nations organization expressed its confidence that the recommendations of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) will be translated into concrete actions to achieve justice and redress for victims.
The GIEI stated in its report that there had been serious acts of violence and human rights violations during the political crisis between September and December 2019, it also found a massacre in Sacaba and Senkata.
After the presentation of its report, the United Nations system in Bolivia said: “On the occasion of the presentation of the final report of the #GIEI, @ONUBolivia expresses its confidence that the recommendations will be translated into concrete measures that make it possible to achieve the desire for justice and Redress for all victims.
The GIEI also noted that at least 37 people lost their lives and hundreds were injured due to the disproportionate violence of the security forces, i.e. the police and the armed forces.
The UN in Bolivia expressed “its willingness to continue to accompany the state and society without distinction in consolidating peace and respecting the #DDHH of Bolivians and Bolivians”.
The expert group arrived in the country on the basis of an agreement signed between the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the transitional government that became viable during Luis Arce’s tenure.
