The second dose of Sputnik V is expected to arrive by the end of the week

Health Minister Jeyson Auza announced yesterday that a new batch of second doses of the Sputnik-V vaccine will arrive from Russia on Friday, August 27, to resume protection for the population left behind in April and May.

According to these data, out of 7.2 million over 18 year olds, Bolivia vaccinated only 31 percent of its target with the full program shortly after the fourth wave.

“We’ll guarantee the second doses. A third batch of second doses will arrive this Friday which will be used to immunize our population with the full regimen, ”he explained.

In departments like Cochabamba, at least 14% of the vaccinable population of 1.2 million over the age of 18 are vaccinated with Sputnik V, approximately 180,000. To date, 50,000 have received the full program, with about 130,000 remaining. About 7,000 have already passed the 90-day deadline to receive the reinforcement.

He pointed out that Bolivia has vaccines against Covid-19, so he urged people who have not yet done so to go to vaccination centers to fight the disease that is still prevalent in the country.

“A vaccine used means one less patient in the intensive care unit, and let us, as the media, as the Bolivian people, help in this fight against the invisible enemy, in this fight that belongs to all Bolivians,” he said.

Deputy Minister for Promotion, Epidemiological Surveillance and Traditional Medicine, María Renee Castro, announced the arrival of new batches of second doses of the Sputnik-V vaccine from next week.

According to the Ministry of Health and Sports, 3,044,011 people had already been vaccinated with the first doses of the Covid-19 vaccines on Friday and 2,275,700 received the second doses in the country.

VACCINATION WITH THE COMPLETE SCHEDULE

Vaccination of the entire regimen, first and second dose, reached 31%. Of the 7.2 million target population so far, 2.2 million have been protected.

The vaccination with the first dose is now 42%, i.e. just over 3 million have already applied the first component against the coronavirus.

The goal to reduce the effects of the fourth wave is to vaccinate at least 70% with one dose. This would avoid serious clinical pictures.

The capital cities are being vaccinated against the new virus due to the proximity of the fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
