In the midst of tension and vigils, the Second Constitutional Chamber of the Departmental Court of Justice of Chuquisaca began the virtual hearing of the Amparo lawsuit to resolve the motion of the Mayor of Cochabamba, Manfred Reyes Villa, in the Sillar Alternativo case.
The hearing was scheduled for 11:00 a.m. but started at 11:44 a.m., according to Correo del Sur.
Reyes Villa’s defense requested that the Constitutional Chamber annul the Supreme Court Criminal Court’s decision denying an appeal against a five-year prison sentence in the Alternative Sillar project, which dates back 12 years.
The members Juan Carlos Mendoza and Gonzalo Flores will be responsible for resolving this request, which determines whether the prison sentence will be carried out or still suspended, reported the capital city media.
The audience is virtual. Reyes Villa is following them from his office in Cochabamba.
Meanwhile, hundreds of the mayor’s supporters have mobilized in both Cochabamba and Sucre to set up vigils in support of the city administration.
