Ex-President Jeanine Áñez’s defense denounced that the new prison authorities had ordered the isolation of the former president and that neither her doctors nor her lawyers could see her.
“We understand that the governor of Miraflores prison has been changed, she is (now) lieutenant colonel, since yesterday the lieutenant colonel ordered the isolation of the ex-president. Their lawyers or doctors have not been given access, ”said Luis Guillén, the former president’s lawyer, quoted by Página Siete.
This afternoon a judge rejected Áñez’s request for freedom. Another hearing to lift the preventive detention is scheduled for tomorrow and Áñez can obtain alternative measures.
A few weeks ago it became known that the former president attempted suicide in prison. Añez has been in prison since March and suffers from high blood pressure and severe depression. His defense and family complain that he has suffered inhuman treatment and physical and emotional torture. The prison regime rejects the allegations, insists that the ex-president is in stable health and that she is looked after like no other inmate.
