The Minister of Health and Sports Jeyson Auza confirmed that 14% of the vaccinable Bolivian population will be vaccinated with the 1008,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine that came into the country from the United States this Sunday via the COVAX mechanism.
“Today we get 1008,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccines, only with this amount, which are unit doses, about 14% of our vaccinable population are immunized,” said the agency in a press conference in the hangar of Diablos Negros of the Bolivian Air Force in El Alto.
He assured that thanks to the solidarity organized around the world through the COVAX mechanism, as well as multilateral and bilateral agreements, it can be said that the country has a sufficient amount of vaccines to guarantee the immunization of the entire vaccinable population.
According to official figures, 5,549,050 doses of the Sputnik V, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Sinopharm and Janssen vaccines from Johnson & Johnson have so far arrived in the country.
The interim representative of the Pan American Health Organization – World Health Organization (PAHO / WHO), Julio Pedroza, brought the recognition of this multilateral organization.
“In a process where vaccination cannot be a privilege for the few, but a right that is equal to all citizens of America, we at PAHO / WHO insist that access to the vaccine must be done with justice and solidarity,” he said, reflecting .
