In response to calls by some opposition leaders to prosecute former presidents Evo Morales and Jeanine Áñez for human rights violations in 2019, Justice Minister Iván Lima claimed that there were no charges against the MAS leader.
“There are no charges against Evo Morales,” Lima said on Noches Sin Tregua to indicate that a trial against the leader of the blue party will not continue, along with the one who follows after Áñez, who is already there for five Months with preventive detention.
“Nobody from the opposition put a proposal to the Attorney General in Sucre, there is nothing. There is nothing that can enter the scale that they dictate. This is clearly a situation where they (opponents) would have to present their process, follow the whole path that (I) took in the case of Áñez to reach this stage, ”stated the Head of State .
After learning of the GIEI report, which documented human rights violations in the Morales and Áñez governments, some opponents called for Morales to be prosecuted.
