Given the escalation of Covid-19 infections and the occurrence of the micron variant, the mayor of La Paz, Iván Arias, announced that the vaccination will take place 24 hours a day, seven days a week in various macro-districts of the municipality. The agency also announced that an “army of white aprons” would go from house to house from next week to increase vaccination.
“Today (Friday) we opened 24-hour vaccination at the La Paz bus station and will have 24-hour vaccination stations in several macro-districts in addition to the Route of Life that we will develop,” he announced.
He explained that setting up vaccination centers in the macro-districts is part of the measures being taken to curb the spread of the micron variant in the community.
Community Secretary for Comprehensive Health and Sports Cecilia Vargas reported that on Thursday, Covid-19 infections in the La Paz community rose 40%, while cases were up almost 100% compared to last week.
This increase is due to the micron variant, the presence of which has been confirmed by the National Director of Epidemiology, Freddy Armijo, following studies by the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA).
Regarding the “house by house” vaccination, the mayor added that the purpose was to vaccinate the greatest number of people in the community against the variable Ómicron in the territory of La Paz, and so Arias asked the La Government to do so Paz, a meeting of the Departmental Emergency Operations Center (COED) on Tuesday, January 11, 2021.
“In this crusade for life we are going to send an army of white aprons to be vaccinated; we will be hiring door-to-door staff, neighborhood by neighborhood; we will hire about 200 people, we will make an agreement with public and private universities; We intend to exceed this number of brigade members for life in this crusade, ”he reported.
