According to the Santa Cruz government, the forest fires in Santa Cruz have reached the Noel Kempff Mercado National Park. The fires continue in seven municipalities in this department.
“The protected areas affected are the San Matías Integrated Management Natural Area (ANMI), the Noel Kempff Mercado Park in San Ignacio de Velasco and the Serranías de San Lorenzo urban reserve in San Javier,” said Yovenka Rosado, fire chief of the Santa Cruz government and was quoted by Página Siete.
Rosado said more than a million hectares were affected by the fires.
The fire continues in San Matías, San Ignacio, San José de Chiquitos, San Javier, San Rafael, Cabezas, and Puerto Suárez.
The government added that the winds had exceeded 80 kilometers per hour and had rekindled the fire.
