Long lines for vaccinations and nasal antigen tests to detect Covid-19 preceded the first working day of 2022 yesterday.
The validity of the vaccination card or the negative PCR test for entry into public and private establishments resulted in a large influx of vaccination sites across the country, while the fourth wave in recent days has seen an unusual increase in cases resulting in that hundreds of people took part in the diagnostics test points or
The government claimed that the decrees requiring identification were already in place, while some sectors join the opposition and prepare a constitutional lawsuit against the rule.
The card went into effect on January 1st, but this Monday is the first working day of the year and its effectiveness can be verified as public and private entities resume their work after the New Year’s strike.
This led to a massive influx at the vaccination sites.
In Santa Cruz, the only vaccination point on Sunday, in Fexpocruz, was overcrowded, with lines of up to two blocks.
According to the Red Uno report, the population stayed asleep to receive the vaccine.
The snakes at the sites for nasal antigen tests have also been long because of the trap explosion in the past few days. The mayor’s office and the government of Santa Cruz have unlocked more than 40 free points to date. This division is the toughest hit of the fourth wave.
Two vaccination centers have been set up in La Paz. At Campo Ferial, the vaccination was extended until 9:00 p.m. due to the large number of people who came to be vaccinated. According to Unitel, most took the first dose.
Rows have also been reported in Cochabamba, Tarija and Sucre.
The controls have been extended to cross-departmental travel terminals. In Cochabamba, the controls found 80 people without a license who could not travel because they did not meet the requirements. 60 people were arrested in La Paz.
The Agency for Electronic Government and Information and Communication Technologies (Agetic) has issued more than a million vaccination cards against Covid-19 as of this Sunday.
Deputy Minister for Epidemiological Promotion and Surveillance, María Renee Castro, pointed out that in recent days, due to the increase in cases in different departments of the country, there have been long lines of people looking for a vaccination at vaccination sites.
“People get vaccinated when they see cases rise, like in Santa Cruz. Before the decree, the population began to go to the vaccination centers. Let’s not wait for those numbers to rise in the various departments just to participate, ”he said.
The Deputy Minister for Consumer Protection, Jorge Silva, recalled that starting today, the first working day of 2022, all public institutions and banks will request the vaccination card.
“Tomorrow (Monday) public institutions, banks will open and of course a work environment will be created within the formal framework in which these documents are required to purchase a service or product in this public and private sector,” he said.
Some sectors have declined the mandatory nature of the card, including the evangelical churches, union sectors of El Alto and some groups of rural teachers.
The president of the Christian Council of the Evangelical Churches of Bolivia, Luis Aruquipa, said that its members could even withdraw their money from the banks that force them to carry the card.
Today it is expected that they will submit an abstract action for unconstitutionality against the decrees that require approval.
The executive secretary of the Bolivian Federation of Trade Unions, César Gonzáles, pointed out that the top decrees attack the unions as it would lead to corruption if everyone in the markets were forced to carry a vaccination card.
GOVERNMENT OPENS DIALOGUE THROUGH CARNETS
Given the increase in social sectors that refuse to present the Covid-19 vaccination card for access to public and private services, Vice Minister of Communication Gabriela Alcón reported that they will socialize the standard with these sectors. However, he said that Decrees 4640 and 4641 are in place and compliance with them is mandatory given the health emergency the country is going through.
“We are open to dialogue with the sectors that are against the vaccination card. It will make contacts and explain the scope. However, the standard is already in place, ”he stated.
