The National Committee for the Defense of Democracy (Conade) supported the President of the Permanent Assembly of Human Rights of Bolivia (Apdhb), Amparo Carvajal this Wednesday and blamed the MAS government for the “clever attacks” against the human rights defender.
“In the past few days we have seen three insidious attacks on Amparo Carvajal, president of the Permanent Assembly of Human Rights of Bolivia (APDHB),” the Conade statement said.
The Conade points out three facts that demonstrate these “attacks”.
First the group called Wila Lluch’us, which threatened to burn down the headquarters of the human rights assembly in the city of La Paz.
Second, Deputy Home Secretary Nelson Cox, who accused Amparo Carvajal of promoting the reintegration of the Cochala Youth Resistance and inciting crime.
COnade also pointed out that the leaders of the El Alto and Cochabamba Human Rights Assemblies had requested that Amparo Carvajal leave the Apdhb presidency to question his mandate.
“These attacks are not accidental, they are staged by the ruling party MAS, which, in view of the great defeats received by the opinion of the Inter-American Court of Justice; the GIEI report and the newsletter in the OAS try to create a haze and tarnish the management of the Apdhb, currently the only unit defending human rights in Bolivia, ”says Conade.
Conade and all of its subsidiaries “are in solidarity with Ms. Amparo Carvajal, support her management in the Apdhb and demand guarantees from the government for the physical integrity of the escort and the facilities of the Apdhb in La Paz.”
Conade reiterated that the MAS government “believes that it is possible to govern by intimidating and harassing the people, but they are wrong, their hatred, their revenge against dissenters only make them weaker against national and international public opinion. “
Conade blamed Luis Arce Catacora’s government for “any act against Ms. Amparo Carvajal and the Apdhb”.
