The “Bolivian Army Day” commemorative events planned for tomorrow have been suspended and the troops are withdrawing, Defense Minister Edmundo Novillo reported this evening.
“The context of conflict and tension that exists in Santa Cruz and other departments has been assessed by the Military High Command and following that assessment it has been determined that tomorrow’s actions will be postponed to another conditions,” Novillo said at a news conference.
In the past few days, the army has dispatched troops, vehicles and weapons to Santa Cruz, where the institution’s 211th anniversary events would be held. The rehearsals for the acts took place on Thursday.
This military movement created vulnerability among the people who adhered to the strike and blockade to oppose Law 1386.
