Because of the pandemic, the government is suspending massive actions on the anniversary of the plurinational state

President Luis Arce reported that after meeting with the Movement for Socialism and the Unity Pact, the government had decided to suspend the massive celebrations to mark the 13th anniversary of the Plurinational State on January 22nd.

The agency said that after an in-depth analysis of the country’s problems as a result of the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19), it was decided to postpone any massive action on January 22nd.

“It was decided to suspend all massive action and we will simply limit ourselves to one action in the Great House of the People to celebrate this important date,” Arce said in a statement to the media.

The agency said it was “12 years” of the plurinational state when in reality it was 13 years since the state’s political constitution was adopted in a constitutional referendum in 2009.

The President announced the resolve among Vice President David Choquehuanca; the leader of the MAS, Evo Morales, and several leaders of the social organizations.

He added that events related to the pandemic forced that decision. “We are limiting ourselves to a smaller but very important act,” he said, referring to the celebrations on January 22nd.

Traditionally, on this day, not only the formal presentation of a management report by the board of directors, but also removals and other events take place.

The country is facing an explosion in Covid-19 cases. 11,002 new infections and 40 deaths from the virus were reported as of Thursday. This Friday, the National Director of Epidemiology confirmed the presence of the Omicron variant in La Paz and El Alto. This variety is highly contagious, although not as deadly as other strains.

Arce urged the population to be vaccinated with the different doses to avoid the strong effects of the disease.
