President Luis Arce announced this Thursday that Russia will send 370,000 second doses of Sputnik V next week, which will cover the deficit of this vaccine in the country.
“Our government accommodates the Bolivian people. #Russia confirms prioritization of 370,000 second doses of # SputnikV vaccine for #Bolivia to be delivered next week. #EstamosSaliendoAdelante, “he wrote on Twitter.
The second dose of Sputnik V was delayed because the Russian company Gamaleya could not produce enough to meet its international obligations.
In Bolivia, it is estimated that more than 300,000 people are waiting for their second dose, and most of them have already passed the 90-day waiting period. This delay sparked popular protests.
“This amount will be enough for everyone whose second dose is planned by mid-October. We reiterate our plea to governments and communities to speed up vaccination, ”said the President.
