Former President Jeanine Áñez was returned to Miraflores Prison in La Paz after a cursory transfer to the Thoracic Hospital, where she was taken to the emergency room at noon.
Norca Cuéllar, the former president’s lawyer, reported that her client was “surprised” by the prison system and taken to hospital without notifying relatives or lawyers.
The ex-president was taken to the medical center at the request of the Forensic Research Institute (IDIF), which requested that Áñez be examined by cardiology specialists.
Áñez left the prison at 12:00 p.m. and returned at 1:30 p.m., the regional council announced.
Cuéllar confirmed that the penitentiary had taken Áñez to Tórax Hospital only to prove that he met tax requirements as he had not performed any of the tests required by IDIF.
“The defense was surprised by the transfer of the ex-president and the required assessment was not carried out. The full study was not carried out, it was found to be fulfilled, “Cuéllar told the media.
He explained that IDIF requested blood, cardiological and psychiatric tests, but only a clinical examination was carried out at the Hospital de Clínicas today, that is, a doctor auscultated the former president and did not do any laboratory or hospital tests.
“We are asking the authorities to meet the requirements for a health center that has the properties required for these studies,” said Cuéllar.
He claimed the ex-president’s health was “fragile” and that she needed urgent medical treatment.
The prison director, Juan Carlos Limpias, confirmed that the ex-president was “stable” and that the studies she needed could be done in Miraflores prison.
Áñez is jailed for the alleged “coup”.
